Our client is a fast-growing AI and technology consultancy operating at the intersection of artificial intelligence and life sciences. They work with biotech, pharma, and healthcare organisations to design and deploy AI-driven solutions that accelerate research, automate complex workflows, and drive measurable operational impact. Their work spans agentic systems, LLM-powered products, and strategic technology advisory for clients across Europe.
The role
In this position, you will join the company as a Senior Lead Agentic AI Engineer, taking ownership of technical direction and helping define the architectural and engineering foundations for next-generation AI products. Acting as a hands-on technical leader, you will drive the design and delivery of agentic AI systems while mentoring engineers, establishing best practices, and working closely with the managing partners to bring structure and strategic clarity to the engineering function.
This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical depth and organisational influence, shaping scalable AI systems within a lean, entrepreneurial environment where your decisions will have immediate and lasting effect.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction of AI and agentic engineering initiatives, including architecture design and implementation strategy.
- Design, build, and maintain AI-powered products and solutions with a strong emphasis on robust, production-ready engineering.
- Provide structure, clarity, and technical leadership across the engineering function, including how work is delivered, documented, and organised.
- Mentor and support engineers, raising the standard of technical practice across the team.
- Contribute hands-on to coding and implementation alongside strategic responsibilities.
- Guide effective and thoughtful use of AI tools and LLMs across the team, moving beyond superficial adoption.
- Translate complex technical concepts clearly for non-technical stakeholders and clients.
- Support delivery planning, prioritisation, and decision-making in a fast-paced, resource-conscious environment.
Required experience and qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a software engineering or AI engineering role within industry.
- Strong background in Python and AI-related development, with the ability to code independently and critically evaluate AI-generated output.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical direction, team structure, or engineering best practices within a product or consultancy environment.
- Strong understanding of how to apply LLMs and AI tools strategically and effectively, rather than as a superficial productivity layer.
- Clear, confident communication skills in English, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable operating in a startup environment with a proactive, ownership-oriented mindset.
- Based in Munich or elsewhere in Germany, with willingness to commute or relocate to Munich for a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
- Valid work authorisation permitting a practical hiring timeline in Germany.
- Nice-to-have experience includes a background in or genuine interest in biotech or life sciences, previous technical leadership within a small, scaling company, and experience balancing architecture, delivery, and mentoring responsibilities simultaneously.
Why this role?
- Join a technically ambitious team deploying AI solutions that directly serve life sciences and healthcare clients, working on problems with genuine scientific and societal relevance.
- Take on a defining leadership role in a growing organisation, with the opportunity to shape how the engineering function operates from an early stage.
- Work alongside managing partners with deep domain expertise, contributing meaningfully to product and commercial strategy as well as technical delivery.
- Benefit from the pace, autonomy, and influence that come with a high-growth startup environment.
- Munich-based hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office, offering the balance of team collaboration and flexibility.
- Competitive compensation package within a company that values and rewards technical leadership.
