Senior Software Developer

Oakland; United States,

We partnered with a pioneering neurotechnology company developing advanced brain-computer interface (BCI) platforms that enabled direct communication between the human brain and digital devices. By recording neural activity at exceptionally high resolution and applying sophisticated AI algorithms to decode that data, the organisation was developing technologies aimed at restoring lost abilities and creating new therapeutic possibilities for neurological conditions.

The company brought together experts across software engineering, neuroscience, hardware engineering, and machine learning, working collaboratively to translate scientific breakthroughs into real-world clinical applications.

The assignment

We successfully supported the search for a Senior Software Engineer who joined a multidisciplinary team developing software capable of directly improving patients’ lives.

The successful candidate played a key role in building systems that translated neural signals into meaningful communication for individuals who had lost the ability to speak due to neurological conditions. Working at the intersection of software engineering, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence, they contributed to the design and development of high-performance applications that interacted with real neural data and specialised brain-computer interface hardware.

This was a unique opportunity to work on transformative technology with genuine clinical impact, while solving complex technical challenges in one of the most exciting areas of modern healthcare innovation.

Key responsibilities

  • Designed and developed high-performance frontend and backend software for clinical and research applications.
  • Built systems that interacted with neural data streams and integrated with specialised BCI hardware.
  • Evaluated and tested software using both simulated and real neural datasets.
  • Contributed to CI/CD processes and software development best practices, improving deployment speed, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Developed tools and strategies for managing, processing, and curating neural and user interaction data.
  • Collaborated closely with multidisciplinary teams including neuroscientists, engineers, product specialists, and researchers to gather requirements and design effective solutions.
  • Participated in code reviews and contributed to the development of new features, tools, and internal platforms.
  • Worked alongside UI/UX designers to implement and refine user-facing interfaces.

Why This Opportunity Stood Out

  • The opportunity to join a world-leading neurotechnology company operating at the forefront of brain-computer interface innovation.
  • The chance to contribute to life-changing technologies designed to restore communication and independence for individuals living with severe neurological conditions.
  • Exposure to a highly collaborative environment bringing together experts across software engineering, neuroscience, AI, and hardware development.
  • The opportunity to work on breakthrough technologies with the potential to transform the future of neurological treatment and rehabilitation.
