Senior Software Engineer | Brain-computer interfaces

Oakland, United States

Aspire Life Sciences supported a neurotechnology company with its search for a Senior Software Engineer to develop software for its brain-computer interface (BCI) platform. The company was working to translate neural signals into communication for people who had lost the ability to speak because of neurological conditions.

The role covered frontend and backend applications for clinical studies and user-facing tools. It involved building software that could work with neural data streams and specialised hardware, testing against simulated and real datasets, and improving the tools used to manage neural and user interaction data. The engineer would work closely with neuroscience, hardware, machine learning and product teams.

The search called for substantial software engineering experience, strong Python and C/C++ or Rust skills, and experience developing high-performance applications on Linux or macOS. Experience in a regulated environment and familiarity with machine learning were also relevant to the brief.
